Mentoring Session on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation

Center for Dalit Women Nepal (CDWN) organized a learning and discussion session for Members of Parliament (MPs) of Bagmati Province, focusing on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and their relevance to parliamentary roles and responsibilities.

The session provided an opportunity for participating MPs to discuss Nepal’s current approach to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation, with emphasis on practical challenges and priorities at the provincial and local levels. Rather than focusing only on theoretical concepts, the discussion highlighted issues that directly affect communities and require stronger policy attention and public investment.

Key discussions covered government policies and priorities, disaster and climate-related budgets, resource allocation, implementation gaps, and parliamentary oversight. Participants also discussed the importance of ensuring that disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation measures are inclusive and responsive to the needs of women, Dalits, marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, and other groups disproportionately affected by disasters and climate change.

The session also highlighted the important role of parliamentarians in advocating for adequate resources, strengthening policies and legislation, monitoring implementation, and ensuring accountability in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation initiatives.

The program served as a platform for MPs to exchange perspectives, identify practical challenges, and strengthen their understanding of how parliamentary leadership can contribute to building more resilient and inclusive communities in Bagmati Province.
