UPR CONSULTATION | MADHESH PROVINCE

On May 30, 2025, the Center for Dalit Women Nepal (CDWN), in collaboration with various Dalit CSOs and with the support of ELCA, LWF, and LCWS, successfully organized a provincial-level consultation in Madhesh Province as part of Nepal’s preparation for the 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).

 

The event brought together 51 participants, including 18 women, 1 person with disability, ward chairpersons, provincial parliamentarians, and representatives from the Haruwa-Charuwa, Mushar, and other marginalized communities. The consultation created a meaningful platform to identify and document key human rights concerns and challenges faced by socially excluded populations.

 

Through active dialogue and focused group discussions, participants developed specific and actionable provincial recommendations aimed at strengthening national advocacy and informing Nepal’s UPR stakeholder report. The event also helped raise awareness about the UPR process and encouraged collaboration between civil society and provincial authorities.

 

Overall, the consultation was an impactful step toward ensuring that the voices of Nepal’s most marginalized communities are included in both national and international human rights advocacy.
