Hamro Sahakarya Essay Event
Under our Hamro Sahakarya initiative, jointly implemented by CDWN and NDSS, funded by the Embassy of Finland in Nepal, and supported by UN Women, we organized an Essay Writing Competition at Spring Hill English Boarding School. The competition focused on the theme: "Role of Family and Society in Domestic Violence."
This event was held following a Community Awareness Program (CAP) on domestic violence, where students learned about its causes, effects, and ways to prevent it. The essay contest provided a platform for students to express their views, emphasizing the importance of support, respect, and speaking out. Many participants highlighted that silence often enables violence and that meaningful change must begin at home and within the community.
Events like these play a vital role in reducing harmful social norms. When students engage in awareness programs and activities, they develop critical thinking skills about social issues. They begin to question outdated beliefs that perpetuate violence, discrimination, and inequality. By sharing their thoughts through speaking and writing, students inspire others to open up and reflect, fostering more open dialogue in families, schools, and communities. Over time, this awareness helps break down harmful social norms as more people change their mindset and take positive action.
